THROUGH THE TRANSPARENT LAYERS OF LIFE

15.11.2024 – 15.02.2025 | Madhu Venugopalan

“Life forces me to be aware of the term homeostasisthis state of balance that sustains life itself. Art is, in many ways, this balance.” Madhu Venugopalan
In Through the Transparent Layers of Life, Madhu Venugopalan offers a poignant reflection on the delicate equilibrium that underpins both nature and human existence. Grounded in the artist’s lived experiences in Kerala, the exhibition navigates the entangled realities of the climate crisis, political turbulence, and social transformation. Through evocative figurative compositions-often centred on women, Venugopalan explores states of emergence and containment, growth and resistance, crafting a visual language that is at once tender and assertive.
His distinctive palette of pinks, purples, and earthy greens evokes a world in flux, where beauty and unease interlace. These works function as quiet meditations on the fragility of ecosystems, environmental and emotional, while also affirming their capacity for renewal. With an intuitive sensitivity to time, contradiction, and mindfulness, Venugopalan’s practice calls for a deeper introspection: a rebalancing of how we relate to the world, to each other, and ourselves.
This exhibition invites viewers into a layered terrain where harmony and discord exist not in opposition, but in a vital and generative tension.
