Fabienne Francotte is a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, drawing, and installation. Born in Belgium, she is currently based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Francotte studied Arabic calligraphy at Maison du Livre in Brussels and trained in contemporary dance at the Royal Conservatory of Dance under Maurice Béjart, an experience that informs the gestural and rhythmic qualities of her visual practice.
Her work explores the human condition through fluid, expressive lines and abstracted figures that evoke subconscious impulses and emotional resonance. Drawing from personal encounters and social observations, Francotte engages with themes of trauma, resilience, identity, and the complexities of everyday life. Her practice is informed by a deep interest in cultural and social narratives, often reflecting on education, religion, and socio-economic divides.

Francotte’s work has been exhibited internationally, including solo and group shows in Sri Lanka, Belgium, France, Greece, and Italy. Notable recent projects include My Makeup is Wrong (2024) at Saskia Fernando Gallery, Colombo, which investigates grief, loss, and the lingering imprints of emotional experience through ghostly portraits and symbolic imagery. Showed with SAC Art Amsterdam for ‘We Don’t Need to Talk’ from 12.12.2025 – 13.02.2025.
