Rucha Kulkarni is a visual artist and social art practitioner working across painting, textile, and installation. Her interdisciplinary practice explores themes of identity, migration, memory, and community through collaborative and process-based methodologies. Grounded in traditional craft and feminist pedagogy, her projects engage storytelling, care, and embodied knowledge as tools for collective authorship and dialogue.
Kulkarni’s work considers the public sphere as a space for participation, inspiration, and self-reflection. Her ongoing engagement with local craft traditions, particularly through the project Quilt Culture, involves collaboration with godhadi craftsmen (quilters) from Maharashtra. This microfinancing initiative examines the intersections of tradition, female skill, labour, and rights-reflecting on survival, agency, and authorship within an increasingly consumer-driven world.

She has exhibited internationally at institutions including the Wereldmuseum (Netherlands), the Museum of Modern Art, Salvador (Brazil), and the Asia Culture Centre, Gwangju (South Korea). Her work has been supported by the Mondriaan Fonds, Stimuleringsfonds, and the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF). Kulkarni currently lives and works between Amsterdam and Pune. Showed with SAC Art Amsterdam for ‘Choreographies of Compliance: Between Allowance and Acceptance’ from 20.02.2026 – 07.04.2026.
