Sehr Jalil is a multidisciplinary visual artist, researcher and educator. Working across painting, moving image, performance, writing and curatorial practice, her work explores how intimate lives become entangled with larger historical, political and institutional forces. Working with scraps and fragments, including family stories, everyday objects, institutional archives and practices of translation, she is interested in the ways everyday experiences and familial histories unsettle dominant historical narratives.

She is a Doctoral Candidate in Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths, University of London, and has been a Lecturer in the Department of Cultural Studies at the National College of Arts, Lahore, Pakistan, since 2015. She was based in London between 2021 and 2026 while pursuing her PhD, during which she also served as an Associate Lecturer in the Department of Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths from June 2024 to June 2026.

Jalil has exhibited extensively, both nationally and internationally, with presentations at Zahoor ul Akhlaq Gallery, Canvas Gallery, The Phillips Collection and Javed Manzil (Allama Iqbal’s House Museum), among other venues.

Recent projects, publications and presentations include: Off Leisurely Confrontations: A Dhol Reconnaissance (video performance, published in Brief Encounters, Issue 9, 2025); Sultana’s Translations (research and practice, 2026 – ongoing); I, the Granddaughter Between London and Lahore (conference paper, CHASE Conference: Visual Pasts, Material Presents, Archival Futures: Postcolonial Temporalities in the Making, University of East Anglia and Sainsbury Research Centre, 2025); And So They Laughed (video essay, Women in Revolt Conference, Tate Britain, 2024); Autobiography of Colonial Time Zones (conference paper, History and Memory of Emotions Conference, St John’s College, University of Cambridge, 2024); Drop and Deceived (book chapter in Drone Vision, Surveillance, Warfare, Protest, 2021); Women on Aeroplanes (passenger/contributor to Inflight Magazine: If Any Line Will Endure, Issue 5, 2020; forthcoming contribution to Issue 7); Anarkali Is Alive (curatorial project, 2019 – ongoing); and Awami Art Collective (founding member, public art practice, 2016 – ongoing).
