K. Sudeesh
Born in Calicut, Kerala, Sudheesh K. studied at Universal Arts School Calicut, and obtained his graduation from the College of Fine Arts, Thrissur, Kerala in 1993. Sudheesh K. in his fantastical landscapes creates a personalized form of myth around ‘complete and perfect’ human-beings. Their forms mutate suggesting what may go on beyond the merely visible.
“My early paintings deals with the relationship between men and nature, landscape of my native village, mythical stories, legends prevailing in our day to day life or that we possess as our ancestral baggage. I do believe that I did communicate with society and developed a philosophy through my paintings and thoughts.
The main theme in the pictures which I have been doing now is on the horrible and immediate reality of humanity and our environment, the notion of development and incursions brutally destroying our environment.
In my picture entitled as ‘Departure from the Land’, the focus is on the pathetic living condition of evicted people in the name of development in various parts of the world. Water, fresh air, vegetation of this planet etc are not accessible to those who deserve it, the real inhabitants of the forest are being evicted and expelled, sizable majorities are being marginalized due to unscientific urbanization around the globe.
Animate and inanimate objects come in to my pictures as strong images because I do love their innocent presence on the surface of this planet.”- K. Sudheesh
