Upendranath T.R.

Upendranath T.R has had no official training from an art college; his art stems from a non-academic background where exploration and selection perform on is canvas. His collages could belong to the Cubist and Surrealist genre of a methodical selective process and knowledge of human beings in general, or his own fragmented understanding of the world in particular.

About his more recent works, titled “Fluid Transcode” Upendranath T.R explains
“I extend my process to acrylic on canvas creating results of unprecedented chromatic patterns reminiscent of the conceptual leaps in post-painterly grid abstractions, as well as the cosmologies of certain aboriginal forms and rhythms. In this age of Artificial General Intelligence and Machine Learning, the gestalt in my post-painterly canvases as configurations of ‘coincidental disruptive patterns’ have the sentient that was originally mapped by Descartes in the Cartesian grid. I want to present the grid as the basis of both modernist painting and modern science, which in the case of a painting, resonates with the fluidity of acrylic paint, as atoms of a polymer-based pigment, and grid itself becomes the transcode between art and science.” – Upendranath T.R.
